INTRODUCTION TO EXPRESSIVE DRAWING

This course is a hands on exploration of the gestural mark making tradition that has been so central to much of art throughout the last one hundred and fifty years. All assignments are done on paper. Students are encouraged to use a wide variety of drawing tools and media in both black and white and color. References are made to established artistic traditions as the class explores scale, surface texture, visual texture, rhythm, shape, spatial ambiguity, color theory, and the principles of pictorial composition.
