ART 301

PAINTING FROM TRADITION
"In the style of Rousseau" by Andrew Nagel, BS, Film, Theater Arts, and Painting, 1998
ART 301 is a structured painting course that asks the students to study assigned artists and then, by analyzing their color, spatial techniques, compositional characteristics, brushwork, content, and signature motifs, to create original art works that expand on the visual dialogue found in the works of the featured artists. There are usually four or five artists assigned in any given semester. Before starting on the final painting for each of the assigned artists each student is expected to produce at least 5 full color compositional "sketches" in oil.
