Layla Copeland was born and raised on a small island off the west coast of Florida.  Her parents both artists, encouraged her to follow her love of the arts.

In 2000 Layla graduated from Florida State University in Tallahassee Florida where she studied with David Breault, Kabuya Bowens and Michael Oliveri.  After graduating with her BFA she returned to the island she called home to figure out what to do next  and she decided to do the unthinkable…get a job.  While simultaneously working a full time job and two part time jobs, Layla also opened a print studio where she was able to work.  It was probably at this time where continuing her education became a really appealing idea.

In 2002 she given the opportunity to move to Florence Italy to study and work at the Santa Reparata International School of Art fulfilling her lifelong dream of living in Italy.  It was one of the greatest experiences in her life and after being back in the academic environment she realized graduate school was the next step. She decided to attend graduate school at the University of Miami the following year.

In 2003 she moved to Miami to attend the printmaking program at the University of Miami.  She plans to graduate with her MFA in the fall of 2006.
