Florida Artist, Cintas Foundation Fellowship, NEA Award in the Visual Arts recipient, nationally and internationally known for his large scale digital prints.
His work is included in many permanent collections: The Smithsonian Institution, National Gallery of American Arts; The Biblioteque Nationale of France, The International Museum of Photography, and many other museums and private collections.
J. Tomas Lopez received a masters degree in Media Arts from the University of South Carolina and his M.F.A. from the University of South Florida. His work has been showcased across the United States, in Europe, China, and in numerous publications.
Tomas is a divemaster which gives him opportunity to pursue underwater photography. He has designed and taught specialized courses such as Underwater Photography, Spiritual/mystical image, Post-Structuralist Theory, Photographic Alternative Processes, and Print-making/alternative photographic processes.
He has been with the University of Miami since 1994 and is the President of the Society for Photographic Education of the Southeast Region and Chair of the Executive Committee.
