The bell tower of the Palazzo Publico (known as the TORRE DEL MANGIA) feels much higher than the observation platform atop Brunelleschi's dome in Florence because the uppermost level is a shaky wooden platform that surrounds the bell itself. And as luck would have it the massive bell began to clang just as I arrived on the precarious platform. Welcome to Siena!
