BFA
BACHELOR OF FINE ARTS

The BFA is a specialization degree in fine arts with a studio major involving fewer academic courses and more courses in foundations, art history, studio electives and 21 credits in the area of studio specialization. Modeled on the curriculum of art schools, it requires at least 24 courses or 72 credit hours as a minimum in art and art history. This degree requires 120 credit hours to graduate.

Scholarship review for this program is in March every

To be considered for admission to the University of Miami, all candidates for the Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree must complete the Art BFA Supplemental Application, the Application for Undergraduate Admission, and a slide portfolio review All students applying for admission to the BFA program will be considered for Departmental Art Scholarships.

The Undergraduate Admission Office reviews each application individually, taking a combination of factors into consideration before making a decision. These include: academic achievement, class rank, standardized test scores, guidance counselor evaluation, teacher recommendations, and the applicant's essay. This office will also consider recommendations made by the Department of Art and Art History regarding the applicant's artistic talent, training, and commitment.

Admission to the University of Miami and the BFA in Art is selective. Those candidates demonstrating strong academic credentials, who are not offered a position in the BFA in Art program, may be offered admission into the Bachelor of Arts Program in Studio Art. Students who pursue the BA degree in Studio Art have the opportunity to apply for the BFA after completion of the Department's foundation courses.
