Adjacent to the Baptistry and Cathedral of Pisa is an enclosed rectangular "churchyard" called the Camposanto Monumentale. On the walls of one room in this building are the frescoes of Buonamico di Buffalmacco, including the often reproduced "The Triumph of the Death". The picture above depicts departed souls being tormented in a boiling pit for their sins. | ||||||||||
